Firemaking Guide

Getting Started

Firemaking is an easy skill to level up, although it can sometime be time consuming. The best way to raise your level is to burn logs while your cutting them, rather than banking them first. Another notable characteristic of firemaking is that you will always burn your logs from east to west, as your character will automatically step away from the fire in that direction. So, you should find a wide open space so that you can continuously burn your logs without having to stop and move again.

Firemaking Tips

Ouch! You’ll be doing a lot of that in this guide. There are few things to talk about in Firemaking but we will go through them. There will be lantern making, shade burning and of course firemaking.

Level 1-15

First you need a tinderbox. These can be bought from the general store for 1gp.
At the moment you will only be able to burn normal logs. You can chop normal logs at level 1. Or you can buy them from the general store for about 2gp. See the Woodcutting Help guide for more information.

So get your tinderbox out and choose one of the areas above to start burning some normal logs. To get from level 1-15 burning normal logs you’ll need to burn 61.

Level 15-30

Congratulations! You can now burn Oaks. Choose another spot from the maps. The best place would probably be outside of the Varrock east bank.

You can cut Oaks at level 15 or you can buy them from the General Store for about 15gp each. If you have the cash, this is the quickest way to get them. To get from level 15 to 30 by burning Oaks you’ll need to burn 183.

Level 30-45

You’ve come a long way my young one. Choose another spot from the map. I recommend choosing Draynor Village as there are 5 Willow trees there and you will be next to the bank.

You can cut Willows at level 30 or you can buy them from the General Store for about 20gp. To get from 30 to 45 burning willows you’ll need to burn 535.

Level 45-60

You can now burn Maples! Choose another spot on the map, I would recommend Seers’ Village as it has a few maple trees at the back of the bank.

You can cut Maples at level 45 or you can buy them from a General Store for about 25gp. To get from 45 to 60 burning maples you’ll need to burn 1573.

Level 60-75

You can now burn Yews! Choose another spot on the map, I would recommend Edgeville as it has Yew trees just south of the bank.

You can cut Yews at level 60 woodcutting or you can buy them from the General Store for about 60gp. To get from 60 to 75 burning yews you’ll need to burn 4626

Level 75+

Now that you have 75 Firemaking you will be able to burn Magics!
Unless you really want to get to 99 I recommend stopping here or burning other trees because magics are worth 1,000gp! If you want to, you can cut Magics at level 75 woodcutting or you can buy them from the general store for about 250gp.

Other Firemaking Uses

There are a few uses for firemaking, including lighting lanterns and burning pyre logs.

Lanterns

Lanterns and candles are mainly used in dark areas such as the Lumbridge Swamp Caves of during the Temple of Ikov quest. If it’s too dark for you to see anything, just light a lantern and you’ll be able to see.

Candle Lanterns - Level 4
Oil Lamp - Level 12
Oil Lantern - Level 26
Bullseye Lantern - Level 49
Candles, Torches and Black Candles all require level 1 Firemaking to be lit.

Pyre Logs

After completing the Shades of Mort’ton quest, you can burn the remains of Shades to obtain different keys to the different doors of the Mort’ton Dungeon. These rooms contain chests with treasure such as pieces of Fine Cloth, used in Splitbark Armor.
