Mining Guide
This guide will show you how to get from the newbie level one Mining to the well respected eighty-five Mining. This guide reveals where and what to mine. This is also perfect for making that pure you always wanted or just looking to make your main better.
If you’re making a pure Miner, I suggest during the mining section of Tutorial Island to mine either copper or tin until three mining, since three is as high as you can reach. This should only take a few minutes. Also, if making a pure, sell all of your items at the appropriate shop, rather than the general store. This money can be used towards mining.
Starter Quests
There are 2 main quests that you should complete before you even start mining:
* Doric’s Quest - Fast mining experience. This should get you to level 10 in no time!
* Rune Mysteries - For access to the Rune Essence rocks. This plays a big part in mining.
Doric’s Quest
To start Doric’s Quest, you just need to speak to Doric, located a short distance northwest of Falador. All you need to finish this quest is 6 Clay, 4 Copper and 2 Iron, and all of which can be found in the Dwarven Mines. If you can’t mine Iron, most people are nice enough to mine it for you. Just bring these ores back to Doric to receive:
* 1,300 Mining experience
* 180gp
* The ability to smith on Doric’s anvils
* 1 Quest Point
Now you should have 10+ mining, so buy yourself a Steel Pickaxe from the shop in the mines if you have the money.
Rune Mysteries Quest
Now for the Rune Mysteries Quest. Start quest by speaking to Duke Horacio who can be found in Lumbridge Castle. Ask him for a quest and he’ll tell you to deliver an air talisman to the head wizard at the Wizard Tower. From here just go west and then south. Enter the tower and go down the ladder. Speak to Sedridor and he’ll look at the talisman and give you a research package to bring to Aubury.
Go north past Draynor Manor, and east once you reach Barbarian Village. Aubury can be found south of Varrock’s East Bank inside his rune shop. Give the package to him and he’ll give research notes in return. Go back to the Wizard Tower and give to Sedridor. After finishing, you’ll receive:
* An Air Talisman
* Access to the Rune Essence Mine
* Ability to craft Runes
* 1 Quest Point
The Road to 85 Mining
Now the mining begins. Mine around 2,700 Rune Essence from Aubury’s teleport. Now you should have 31 mining. Sell the essence for around 54,000-108,000gp. Go to the Dwarven Mines and buy an Adamant Pickaxe.
You’ll now be mining Iron, from any of the places marked in red on this map:

Now mine around 800 iron and sell them. You should be 41 mining. Go buy yourself a shiny-new Rune Pickaxe.
Now either powermine or bank around 7,100 iron ores (I suggest powermining for fast experience, or banking for cash). Now you should have 60 mining and you can enter the Mining Guild.
Now for the hard part, to 85 mining. Mine around 86,500 Iron ores from either of the places shown on the map above (I suggest powermining, that’s what I did).
Congratulations, you’re now level 85 mining!
Tips
Here are some tips that should hopefully make your mining experience easier:
* Market worlds are good for mining since less people are mining and the respawn time for rocks are faster.
* You can easily mine 1,000 Iron ores an hour with a rune pick at the Al Kharid Mine by powermining.
* If you want to mine Coal I suggest being 41 mining and with a rune pick. Suggested areas are shown on the below map.

* Al Kharid is best place to mine Iron if you’re level 29 in combat due to the Scorpions.
